Anderson, Stanley RADM Rear Adm. Stanley Joseph Anderson, U.S. Navy, (Ret.), passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, in Golden Valley, MN. He was a plank owner on Snook.
Arritt, Clarence E. SK1(SS) Clarence's daughter, Sammie, reports that he passed away 12/6/1990. Clarence was a best friend with Jimmy Johnson (d. 12/18/09) and was a plankowner on Snook.

It is reported that Orin passed away in 2001.
Camerchioli, Charles   Charles passed away in a scuba diving accident in Tobermory, Ontario, Canada on 8 August, 2000. He is survived by his parents in Rochester, NY.
Carbonari, Ostiglio F.   It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Ostiglio passed away. According to research, he was born July 25, 1922 and passed away July 10, 2009 in Carol Stream, IL. He served on the first Snook SS 279.
Cavanaugh, Joe MM1(SS) In Joe's last years he had been struggling with melinoma and had two surgeries dealing with that cancer issue.  He had been working at San Onofre nuclear generating facility. He also had started up Mustang Aviation with his very good friend C.E. and they flew between San Diego (home base) and Catalina Island/Las Vegas. Flying was his great joy. But at the end of the 5 year period that the doctors had given him he hit his head on an open cabinet door one day while in the kitchen, a fist size bump appeared on his forehead. This was in October of 1982 and the day after Christmas he crossed the threshold of death into eternity. His memorial service was held in Solana Beach at the church where our Pastor Kevin presided over the service. That was New Years Eve of 1982.

Joey as he was called was born in Oakland, CA November 23, 1944. He attended John Brown Military School as a young child and graduated from Indio High School. He enlisted in the Navy right after graduation and served his country for fourteen years. His ashes were flown over Catalina by his friend C.E. and a tree was planted by his brother, Dennis in Idyllwild where we also lived.
Charbonneau, Paul J. CS1(SS) Paul retired from the Navy in 1970 as a CSCS(SS) and passed away June 1980. He is survived by his wife Emiko, duaghter Ramona and sons Paul E. and Charles. Paul was a plankowner on Snook.
Clark, Craig ET1(SS) Craig Levi Clark, 70, passed away on September 10, 2014 in Cincinnati, OH.
Clark, Fred Merrill ETC(SS) It is reported that Fred passed away on February 5, 1999 at the age of 54. He was an ETC(SS) on Snook from approximately 1970 to 1974.
Colden, Kevin MM2(SS) Kevin's wife reports he passed away on 3/23/17. Kevin served on Snook from 1969 to 1970. Kevin had Lewy Body Dementia before his passing.

Charles Francis Dauphin, age 79, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at LifeCare Hospital surrounded by his family on March 7, 2019 after a brief illness. Charles was a plankowner on Snook from 3/61 to 8/64 as an EN1(SS).

Downes, Peter J.
Peter's son, Peter Jr., reports his dad passed away on October 19, 2004, in Moreno Valley, California. He was buried with full miltary honors at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California. He is survived by his two sons and his sister, Marie of Vermont. Peter served aboard Snook from 3/62 to 12/64.
Dunnivan, James R.  TM1(SS) Jim's wife, Maggie, reports he passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003 with lung cancer. Jim was part of the Snook commissioning crew.

Flanagan, Bernerd EMC(SS) Bernerd J. Flanagan, CPO USN, 21 years, went on his eternal patrol on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. He was a plank owner on Snook.
Fleming, Glenn MMCM(SS) It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Glenn passed away 3/30/15.
Fletcher, David TM1(SS) David's wife, Susan reports that David passed away Monday night, May 12, 2014 from a second stroke.  This one was much bigger than the first and he never recovered following surgery to remove blood from the brain.  He had the stroke on Friday night and fought a good fight until Monday night.

He had such fond memories of the boat and all the crew and still loved everything about the Navy.

Heller, Norman L. FTGCM(SS) Norman Lewis Heller of Menifee, California passed away Sunday, November 16, 2017. He was born September 4, 1936. Norm served on SNook from 1966 to 1969. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Miller-Jones Mortuary Sun City.
Higgins, Ronald J. MM(SS) Ron passed away September 10, 2011 in Grinnell, IA after a courageous battle with cancer. He served on Snook from 1966 to 1970. Ron was 64.
Holba, Daniel EM2(SS) Dan's daughter, Staci Anderson, reports Dan went on eternal patrol 12-19-16. He was prouder than nothing else on this earth as he was of earning his dolphins aboard the USS Snook. Dan served on Snook from 11/66 to 6/68.

Hoskins, Richard ICC(SS) Richard's son, David, reports that his father passed away August 5, 1991. Richard served as a Chief IC man on Snook during the early 70's.
Hoyt, Roger EM1(SS) Roger L Hoyt was born on 11/03/1939 and died on 10/26/1996 at the age of 56. Roger Hoyt is buried in the Graceland Cemetery, which is located in Burlington, KS.

Johnson, James T. (Jimmy) MM1(SS) (DV) It has been reported that Jimmy Johnson passed away December 18, 2009. Jimmy had cancer, went into remission a few years ago and then came back this fall.

Kaup, Karl L. RADM Karl passed away 30 December, 1998 in San Diego, CA. He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughters Stacy Kaup, Jennifer Hannon, and Amy Vigeant, brothers Dr. David Kaup and Michael Kaup, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nartowicz, Francis "Ski" EN1(SS) Marybeth Johnson reports her grandfather passed away on September 8th, 1993. Some time after Snook, Francis wrote short stories and submitted them to magazines such as Reader's Digest. He even wrote a book but passed away before it could be published. Francis was a plankowner on Snook.
Nelson, Evert Charles ET1(SS) Evert was born on July 14, 1941 and passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016. Known as Chuck to his shipmates, he served on Snook in the early 70's. 
Newman, Payton (Alfie) ET2(SS) Roger Morris reports that "Alfie" passed away in 1976 of a heart attack.
O'Dea, Timothy STS2(SS) Tim died of a heart attack on 12/31/2000 while surfing at Torrey Pines, San Diego, CA.
Parker, Craig Hugh FT?(SS) Craig Hugh Parker, 56, of Westminster, MD died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his home. Craig was an FT on board Snook in the early 80’s.
Parker, Gary TMC(SS) Walter "Stumpy" Taggart reports "With a great sadness in my heart, I just got word that one of our early shipmates, TMC (SS) Gary Parker has gone on 3/12/16. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer just a short time ago and was in treatment for the beast."

Price, Larry W. MM2(SS) Ray Calhoun reports his brother, Larry Price passed away December 24, 2010 from heart failure. He was at home with his wife, Kay, and daughters. Larry was a MM2 on Snook from 1964 - 1967.
Prince, George MMCM(SS) George's wife reported to Ron Athey that George passed away March 7, 2010 and was laid to rest March 31, 2010 at Rosecrans in San Diego.
Ray, Valton L. CSC(SS) Val was a plankowner on Snook and he is remembered for running a great mess onboard as Chief Commissaryman. Val passed away on May 29th, 2001.
Rouse, Wayne MM1(SS) According to current USSVI records (as reported by Charles (Frenchy) Dauphin), Wayne Rouse, a member of the commissioning crew passed away 2/04/03. Wayne retired as a LCDR(LDO) and was living in Virginia Beach. He was a member of the Peoria base of USSVI .
Rowe, Dennis ETN2(SS) Dennis passed away on February 4, 2018. He served on Snook from 1974 to 1979. Dennis retired from the Navy with 27 years of service as an ETCM(SS).
 Sapp, John H. ENC(SS) Walter "Stumpy" Taggart reports that John passed away October 13, 2010 in Florida.  John was a plankowner on Snook. Click on his name to read his obit.
Schmidtberger, Kenneth EM2(SS) Kenneth Francis Schmidtberger, born March 18, 1948 and passed June 4, 2009, Russell Kansas. Ken served on Snook in the early 70's.
Seigler, Harold ICC(SS) Harold's son, James, reports his dad passed away January 14, 2010 in Orlando, FL. Chief Seigler retired after more than 23 years in service.  His last sea duty was aboard the John Quincy Adams, (Gold Crew), while in Pearl Harbor, suffering a major heart attack that led to his subsequent 2+ years of shore duty, followed by retirement.
After a brief ownership of an Orlando TV repair shop, he went on to a career with Litton Laser Systems, (Orlando, FL), and retired from them as Senior Prototype Test Engineer.
Seteroff, Sviatoslav Steve QM2(SS) Steve's daughter reports that he passed away January 8, 2011 in Wasilla, AK. Steve was a plankowner on Snook. Click his name to read his obit.
Siemonsma, Daniel J, RMCS(SS) It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Daniel passed away 11/4/08.
Sliacky, Edward ETCS(SS) Ed was a plankowner on Snook and served in the RC Division. He retired as ETCS(SS) and lived in Old Saybrook, CT., later moving to Lillian, AL. He is survived by his wife, Olga. Ed passed away 9 June, 1998.
Smith, Marshall Dale FTCS(SS) "Smitty" was a plankowner on Snook and passed away December 23, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Rose, four daughters, and a grandson.
Spide, Robert (Spider) ETC(SS) Bob was a plankowner on Snook and passed away October 29, 2005 at 2030 hours in Washington D.C. His long time friend, "Mac" McPherson, was at his side. He was cremated and his ashes will be sent to Mac in Texas and kept there until such time as the 2007 USSVI convention cruise to Alaska. Bob always wanted to go there but never made it. Mac will spread his ashes during the cruise. Bob had been evacuated from the Armed Forces Home in Gulfport due to hurricane Katrina. Cause of death is unknown but he had suffered for years with lung problems. Bob was instrumental in organizing past Snook reunions and will be sorely missed.

Stewart, James (Jimmy) IC2(SS) Served on Snook mid 60's
Stibbens, Cecil ET1(SS) It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Cecil passed away 9/21/13.
Stott Jr., George W. LT(SS) Walter "Stumpy" Taggart reports that George passed away 7/20/2016 on Oahu, HI. George was a plank owner on Snook and served as the M Divivion Officer. He went on to be the commissioning CO of the USS Pogy (SSN-647) that ended up in Pearl Harbor. Besides being on Snook he was the Sqdron Eng. SUBRONONE. He retired from the Navy from Sqdron One and went on to quite an illustrious career in real estate. He got the nick name "Bear Tracks" on Snook and was accused of not being able to chew gum and walk at the same time.
Strahorn, James N. ENC(SS) James was a plankowner on Snook and passed away in 2002.

Sukow, Robert E. Jr. ICC(SS) It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Robert passed away 2/12/04.
Summitt, Charles D. LCDR It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Charles passed away 1/1/09. He was the XO in 1960.
Swain, Vernon MM1(SS) Vern went to NPTU, Windsor in '76 where he served as Site LELT. Vern  made a career of the Navy and advanced to E-9 and served over 20 years before being discharged after suffering at least 1 stroke. Following his discharge he returned to Texas and suffered several more strokes before passing away in July, 1999 of cardiac failure.
Taggart, Walter C. "Stumpy"FTCM(SS)Walter, better known by friends and shipmates as Stumpy, passed away in early November, 2019 in Hawaii. Stumpy was a plankowner on Snook and served 1961 - 1964 as FTG1 (SS).
Templeman, Thomas L.   His wife, Elaine, reported he passed away at age 51 on February 10, 1994. No other details. 
Tillery, Lee Roy EMC(SS) Lee was a plank owner and his daughter, Peggy, reports her dad died of colon cancer May 20, 2008. He was 78. She notes how he was proud of his Navy service and she just wanted everyone to know he is gone.  Peggy has the plank from the Snook that he had. 
Tubo, Dennis SK2(SS) Dennis's wife, Sandy, reports that Dennis passed away 3/2/2017. He served on Snook from 4/72 to 11/75 and was a SK2.
Tucker, Mark  IC1(SS) Mark was born October 9, 1940 and passed October 2, 2015. He was survived by his wife, one brother and 3 sisters. He served on Snook in the early 70's and was retired US Navy. The family chose cremation as the final disposition so there is no cemetery information.
Vallecorsa, Ron
ET1(SS) Gervase Rybak reports that our shipmate Ron Vallecorsa passed away on February 8, 2009. Ron had a long battle with cancer over the last couple of years. Gervase had talked with and E-mailed Ron over the years. They had a nice phone conversation about three months ago and he always had good words to say about life. Ron always had a positive outlook with his battle with cancer and we had a ton of laughs.
When onboard the Snook, I know he had a good time and enjoyed the company of his shipmates.

Peter passed away September 7, 2014. He was a plank owner on Snook from 2/61 - 12/62.
Vogt, Larry MMCS(SS) It is reported by the USSVI Decklog that Larry passed away 11/11/08.
Watkins, James D. LCDR (ADM) James D. Watkins passed away July 26, 2012 at the age of 85 of congestive heart failure at his home in Alexandria, VA.

A native Californian, Watkins graduated from the Naval Academy in 1949. He was a protege of Adm. Hyman Rickover and spent much of his career on nuclear-powered ships.Admiral Watkins was the first XO of the USS Snook, later CO (11/64 - 9/66) of the Snook and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) from 1982-86. He also served as Secretary of Energy under the first George Bush, and in the early 2000s was appointed Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy by the second George Bush.

His first wife, Sheila, who most of us on the commissioning crew remember, passed away in 1996. Survivors include 6 children from this marriage. More info.
Williams, Ray EMCM(SS) Don Catmull reports that Ray Williams passed away September 16, 2016 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. 
Wilson, Alan J. QMCM(SS) Master Chief Quarter Master Alan 'Jerry' Wilson, Sr., 80, died peacefully in his Mena, AR home on December 1, 2016. Alan was on Snook1963 to 1964 as QM1(SS).

Art Sievers reports that Roger was a Nuc ET on Snook and then went to Sea Devil. 
He died in an accident at Surry in 1972.
